I have a new job as of Jan 04.
New Boss leaving the country for 6 weeks, Jan 19
So I’ve had little time to train on the environment.
Probably the second largest environment I’ve worked and I had to learn it in a matter or 2 weeks.
First day he’s gone Thursday a guy system crashes (I do a rebuild, install his apps he’s good).
Building Facilities comes in (There’s a leak on the first floor, it’s coming from your server room we think) 30 minutes looking for nothing.
HR says I need Laptop and XYZ on a Whim, I stress out and find the stuff and use my own stuff to help out, she needs it for a Monday meeting.
Friday’s HERE!!!
I’m in D.C and it’s INAUGURATION DAY and it’s all F’d up here in D.C Everything is shut down.
I come into the office anyway…
Going fine…
Email and calls that (We can’t RDP into our workstations) no biggie, give them the other RDP server, all is well.
That RDP server DIES…WTF.
Now remember I’m only here 2 weeks to learn a Boat load of SH&T
We never covered all the VLAN’s and IP Schemas
So My IT Director says cool you gave them the other RDP Server then we’ll figure it out Monday BUT Alas, the 2nd one goes down.
So we figure out it was a Core Switch that died, there was a laptop hooked to the Console on another switch same rack so I moved it to the Switch that’s down.
I see that it’s logmeinresue ready, tell him… he get’s in
Flash card is wonky, he runs some magic from putty and gets it back up.
Last thing is to get the public IP’s to the 2 servers up, I do some weird crap and find the cables and Voila! we’re up.
A Slow day I could have gone home turns into a nightmare…
Thank god I came in anyway…
